8 Holiday Apps to Spread Office Cheer

Bring a smile to their face with these 8 holiday apps.

Want to keep your employees productive this holiday season? Research shows people work best when they are happy and engaged. To cheer your office staff, look no further than the app store. Many apps for smartphones and tablets are available — many for free — to help boost holiday spirit during an often stressful time.

Here are a few to consider:

1. Christmas Countdown 2015!

This free app lets you keep track of how many days remain until the big day. It also provides you with a holiday-related quote each day. These Christmas quotes can be easily tweeted or shared with your co-workers via email. An ad-free, premium version also is available for 99 cents.

Note that many similar apps are titled "Christmas Countdown" but don't include daily quotes — so when searching, be sure to use the correct name and look for publisher UAB Target Works.

Available on iOS.

2. Christmas Radio

BluMedialab's free and easy-to-use app brings together more than 50 holiday music radio stations, including tunes in subgenres such as country or soul. Play to yourself using headphones — or broadcast to your co-workers to further spread holiday spirit.

Available on iOS  and Android.

3. Sing-Along Christmas Carols

How about some carol karaoke, perhaps during the office Christmas party? The free version of this karaoke app has only three songs, but for $4.99 you get 50 more. Lyrics appear on-screen and can be broadcast to bigger displays using AirPlay.

Available on iOS.

4. Secret Santa

Setting up a holiday gift exchange? With Secret Santa by Elfmo, you enter the names of participants (either manually or using your Facebook or contact lists). The app then picks gifting partners, sharing assignments via email, Facebook or Twitter. It's free for up to five people and costs 99 cents for the full version, which lets you include up to 24 people.

Available on iOS and Android.

5. Elf Yourself®

The popular Elf Yourself® app lets you create funny videos featuring your face — or your co-workers' faces — on dancing elf bodies, using existing or newly created photos. The resulting elf dance can be saved and shared with others in the office.

The app is free for one dance. If you want to buy more, each one costs 99 cents, or you can get all 12 for $5.99.

Available on iOS and Android.

6. Santa Booth

Santa Booth by Pocket App lets you place photos of yourself or others on a holiday-themed body (Santa is free; for $1.99, you get other characters, such as Mrs. Claus and a reindeer).

Unlike Elf Yourself®, these creations don't animate and move around. But you can still save the images to share with fellow office mates, and you can print them on cards, gift tags, posters or other decorations.

Available on iOS and Android.

7. Super Dreidel

For office parties or during breaks, you may wish to play this Dreidel game. The By No Bars app lets 2 to 8 participants play at a time, keeping track of scores and bets.

Available on iOS.

8. Santa's Naughty or Nice Scanner

Play a quick party game with co-workers using Chroma Club's app, which assesses the "niceness" or "naughtiness" of each person based on their on-screen thumbprint.

Available on iOS and Android.
